On August 24, the first phase of a modern tomato greenhouse project in the Kabutarkhan area of Rafsanjan was inaugurated, coinciding with the start of Government Week. The ceremony was attended by the Governor of Kerman and several other officials.
The project covers a total of 16 hectares, of which 14 hectares are designated for greenhouse cultivation with plastic coverings. Utilizing hydroponic technology and a closed irrigation system, the facility aims to enhance water efficiency, produce export-quality crops, and create sustainable employment opportunities.
In this first phase, 2.5 hectares have been brought into operation, with a weekly production capacity of 61,000 tomato seedlings. The primary output is intended for export to Russia.
Once all phases are completed by the end of December, the full 14 hectares will be under cultivation. According to officials, the project is expected to meet domestic demand, boost non-oil exports, and generate both direct and indirect employment for hundreds of people in the region.
